How to Tune a Ukulele With an Online Ukulele Tuner

Play one string at a time
Begin with the G string closest to your face, then move through C, E, and A. Mute the other strings so the tuner hears one clean note.

Move the reading toward the center
A left reading is flat, so tighten the string. A right reading is sharp, so loosen it. The center turns green when the pitch is in tune.

Check the G octave and repeat
Standard ukulele uses high G4; low-G setups use G3. Pick the correct preset, tune all four strings, then check them once more.
Standard Ukulele Tuning: G C E A Notes and Frequencies
Standard ukulele tuning is G C E A from the fourth string to the first. On the usual high-G setup, the G string is tuned above middle C rather than below it. That re-entrant order gives the ukulele its compact, bright chord voicing.

Standard G4 C4 E4 A4 works for soprano, concert, and most tenor ukuleles. Tenor players who want more low range can switch the fourth string and select the Low G preset.
Baritone ukulele

What is standard ukulele tuning?
Standard tuning for soprano, concert, and most tenor ukuleles is G4, C4, E4, A4. It is written G C E A. The usual high-G setup is re-entrant, meaning the first G is higher than the C that follows it.
Which order are ukulele strings tuned in?
With the instrument in playing position, tune the string closest to your face first: G, then C, E, and A toward the floor. Standard high-G tuning uses G4 C4 E4 A4.
What is the difference between high G and low G?
High G uses G4 and gives the familiar re-entrant ukulele sound. Low G replaces it with G3, one octave lower, for a wider range and a more linear low-to-high string order. Select the Low G preset so the tuner targets the correct octave.
Is baritone ukulele tuning different?
Yes. Baritone ukulele normally uses D3 G3 B3 E4 instead of G C E A. Choose the Baritone Ukulele preset before tuning; its notes match the highest four strings of a guitar.
Does this work for soprano, concert, and tenor ukulele?
Yes. Soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles commonly use standard G C E A. Tenor players can also select Low G. Baritone and alternate tunings have their own presets on the same tuner.
