About TuneMode

Free Practice Tools for Musicians

TuneMode provides browser-based tools for tuning, timing, and learning chords. No downloads, no accounts, no fees. Built by musicians who got tired of clunky, ad-heavy tuner apps.

What is TuneMode?

TuneMode is a collection of free, browser-based practice tools for guitarists, bassists, ukulele players, and anyone else with a stringed instrument. The core tool is a chromatic tuner with 30+ tuning presets, from standard E-A-D-G-B-E to exotic open tunings like Open G and DADGAD. Around that, you'll find a metronome, a chord library, and a custom tuner for building your own tuning configurations.

Our mission

We believe tuning should be a quick, frictionless step, not a frustrating barrier to making music. TuneMode exists to give you fast, trustworthy tools so you can spend less time fiddling with settings and more time playing.

Most online tuners are cluttered with ads, require downloads, or push paid upgrades. We built TuneMode because we wanted something better: a clean, fast tool that works the first time you open it. Whether you're warming up before rehearsal, experimenting with DADGAD, or running through scales with a metronome, we've got you covered.

What We Stand For

Speed First

Tuning is a means to an end. We respect your time—get in tune fast so you can get back to playing.

Accuracy You Can Trust

Our pitch detection is rock-solid. When TuneMode says you're in tune, you're in tune.

What We Offer

How it works

1

Open the tuner

Visit the homepage or select a specific tuning from the library. The tuner runs entirely in your browser; no app to download.

2

Grant microphone access

Your browser will ask for mic permission. The audio is processed locally and never leaves your device.

3

Play a string

The tuner detects the pitch and shows how close you are to the target note. Green means in tune. Adjust the tuning peg until you hit the mark.

4

Practice with confidence

Once tuned, use the metronome to build timing or the chord library to look up fingerings. All tools are free and work together.

Frequently asked questions

Is TuneMode free?

Yes. All tools are free to use with no hidden fees, premium tiers, or trial periods. TuneMode is supported by minimal, non-intrusive ads.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use every tool without signing up. Custom tunings are saved in your browser's local storage.

Is my audio data private?

Yes. Pitch detection happens locally in your browser. Audio never leaves your device or gets sent to any server. We don't store or analyze your playing.

What devices does TuneMode support?

TuneMode works on any device with a modern browser and microphone. This includes phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all work.

How accurate is the tuner?

The tuner uses the YIN algorithm for pitch detection, which provides accuracy within a few cents (hundredths of a semitone). It's reliable for standard practice conditions.

Can I use TuneMode offline?

If you install TuneMode as a PWA (Add to Home Screen), some features work offline. The metronome runs entirely locally; the tuner needs initial mic access.
