Free Practice Tools
Browser-based tools for tuning, timing, and learning chords. No downloads, no accounts, no fees. Works on phone, tablet, and desktop.
What's included?
TuneMode gives you four essential practice tools, all free and browser-based. Use them individually or together for a complete practice session. The tuner handles pitch detection. The metronome keeps you on tempo. The chord library shows you fingerings. The custom tuner lets you build any tuning you can imagine.
Online Tuner
Accurate pitch detection with 30+ tuning presets for guitar, bass, and ukulele.
The tuner listens through your device's microphone and shows how close you are to pitch. Green means in tune. The needle tells you to tighten (sharp) or loosen (flat). Select from standard tuning, Drop D, Open G, DADGAD, and many more presets, or build your own with the custom tuner.
Works best: Find a quiet space, play one string at a time, and tune up to pitch (if flat, go past the note then tune down to avoid slipping).
Metronome
Stay perfectly on tempo with visual beat indicators and accented downbeats. Essential for building solid timing.
Custom Tuner
Build and save your own custom tunings for any string instrument. Perfect for experimental setups.
Chord Library
Browse clear, accurate chord diagrams for guitar, bass, ukulele, and more. Filter by root and quality.
How to use these tools together
Tune first, always
Start every practice session with the tuner. Playing out of tune trains your ear wrong and makes everything sound bad, even if your technique is good.
Set a tempo before scales or songs
The metronome keeps you honest. Start slow enough that you can play cleanly, then increase BPM as you improve. Speed comes from accuracy, not rushing.
Look up chords you don't know
The chord library shows fingerings for major, minor, 7th, and sus chords. Filter by root note and quality to find what you need fast.
Experiment with custom tunings
The custom tuner lets you build any tuning for 1-12 strings. Save your favorites and share them with bandmates. Great for songwriting and creative exploration.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download anything?
No. All tools run in your browser. Open the page, grant microphone access (for the tuner), and start using them. Works on Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
Are these tools free?
Yes. TuneMode's tools are free for everyone. No trial period, no premium tier, no account required. Use them as often as you want.
Does the tuner work on mobile?
Yes. The tuner works on phones and tablets. Find a quiet spot, hold your device near your instrument, and tune one string at a time for best accuracy.
Can I use the metronome offline?
If you install TuneMode as a PWA (Add to Home Screen), the metronome works offline. The tuner requires microphone access, which may need an active connection initially.
